Google SERPs and Social Bookmarking

RAMBLE ALERT!!

Why is it that Google Bookmarks do not carry weight in my Google searches?  It seems to me that if I take the time to bookmark a site, and give it a tag, and then later search for that tag that those sites would be right at the top.  They are obviously the most relevant results, otherwise I would not have tagged them as such.

I know that Web History is checking the number of times I visit a site.  Why don’t my most visited sites bubble to the top of related searches.  If I have visited a site 20 times and do a search where that is a result, again sounds pretty relevant to me.

I have been thinking about taking my bloated Ma.gnolia account, with over 3000 bookmarks, and deleting the content.  Making a fresh bookmarking start.  I was thinking about how I want my bookmarks to work, I am not as sold on the social aspects of bookmarking as I once was, and I think that search needs to be a huge part of how I bookmark.  I took a look at Google Bookmarks again, looking to see if there was a valid workflow I could assign to bookmarking and tagging.  In the past I didn’t have the Google Toolbar loaded in Firefox, so I didn’t have a good way to bookmark things.  The toolbar changes that, and gives me a little button I can click to work with and add new bookmarks.  It is not great, but it is not bad either.

The nice thing about the Google bookmarks is that the search is lightning fast, and I can use all sorts of operators.  This is a feature that is coming soon on Ma.gnolia, but with 3000 bookmarks it is one I want right now.  I go back to the note above though.  If I bookmark and tag the Runebound home page, and maybe 4 or 5 other Runebound sites, why do my tagged bookmarks not show up at the top when I perform a search for Runebound?  The Google Bookmarks UI is crap, so really all you have is search when it comes to your bookmarks.  It would be nice if they were given more weight.

One other thing related to search that is kinda nice with Google as opposed to Ma.gnolia is that the title, description and all of the tags are searched in a single search.  They are different in Ma.gnolia.  That kinda forces the use of more tags to make tag searches replicate title and description functionality.

What I really want is to have the ability to create a fast list of my links based on any criteria I define.  Some of those lists of links I want to grab an RSS feed for and put in my Firefox toolbar for fast access.  The rest I just want to be able to pull up, preferably using the keyboard only, and access quickly.  I don’t think I can do that with Ma.gnolia and my 3000 bookmarks.  I think I need to start over, be more concerned with what I bookmark and how, and not try to capture the whole web.  The question is, is there any reason to leave Ma.gnolia to do this?
