Pearland has a new outdoors store, and a new restaurant called Islamorada Fish Company. This new seafood place is located inside of the new, and very cool Bass Pro Shops in Pearland.
Melissa and I basically had the same thing, and I think we both came away with the same impression. Before I talk about the food let me mention the location itself. The store is located at the corner of Beltway 8 and Hwy 288 in Pearland. Being located in Bass Pro Shops is kinda strange, but the once you are inside the restaurant it is easy to forget you are. Everything is decorated to the hilt with a nautical theme, very suiting to the seafood dominated menu. One of the stores two large aquariums is visible above the bar in the main area of the restaurant. This aquarium is a salt water tank with a whole lot of fish..very cool.
As for our dining experience, I can see us returning to Islamorada again. The wait staff is still a little fresh, and it showed in the number of people who visited our table. One bus person took Melissa’s silverware when he came by to take some plates away. Otherwise, the service was good and fast.
The menu is mostly a seafood menu with some steaks and sandwiches thrown into the mix. One free loaf of some very good bread is brought to each table. Melissa and I both got a combo of grilled shrimp and scallops. You have a choice teriyaki, barbeque, blackened or garlic grill seasoning. We both chose the garlic. I added a cup of clam chowder as well. The food was good. I will say that things were a bit bland though. The chowder had a good flavor, but it was not quite strong enough. The soup was very creamy though which I like. The scallops and shrimp were fresh and well cooked. Both were still juicy and sweet, and most importantly they were served hot. Shellfish cool off so fast it is good to get them hot. The flavor again was there, but not quite strong enough. My last scallop seemed to have soaked up a lot of flavor though, which gave me an idea of how hey all should have tasted. Still, the food was good.
I think the restaurant is a bit pricey, it was about 50.00 for the 3 of us for dinner with tip. That is not much different than when we go out to Red Lobster or any other seafood place, but I felt the meal would have been a better value at maybe 14.95 instead of 16.95. If you are in the Pearland area it is worth a visit, if only to visit the store and see this nice looking eatery.
Iain had a good time, ate some chicken strips and applesauce. He has some on his face.
