Windows Live Writer

I took the day off from work today to relax, get a few things done, and hang out at various coffee shop’s with my green laptop and be geeky.  It worked out well, except for the fact that I seem to have come down with a cold.  Oh well, illness happens.

Back to the subject at hand.  I have been using Windows Live Writer on and off for a while now to post to my blog.  If you have any interest in or need for a Windows program to manage posting to your blog you could do FAR worse than this free piece of software.

Live Writer Open Pages Interface So I was getting ready to do some blogging today, and I clicked the New button in Live Writer.  I noticed, not sure how I missed it before, that it gave me the option to create a new page or a new post.  I have been thinking a lot about the pages on my site, and I intend to use them more with the release of WordPress 2.3.  I was totally stoked to see that I can create a new page via Live Writer.  I was even more amazed when I realized that if I can create new I can also edit existing.  I really don’t know how I missed this before.  The ability to manage all these aspects of my blog from this tool make it a real must have.

I am hoping that the Live Writer team comes out with an update in pretty short order to support the new tagging functionality in WordPress.

  1. Here’s one way to enable WP 2.3 tags in WLW:

Another is to check out the comment in that post from Joseph Scott, a WP developer.

Thanks Joe. This will be very helpful. Out of curiosity, same Joe Cheng who came to MS via Onfolio?

  3. Yep, that’s me. The Onfolio team became the Windows Live Writer team. (Hmmm, I thought your name and domain sounded familiar…)

Cool. Yep, I used to bug you all the time about the tagging function in Onfolio. So is Onfolio dead then? I know they integrated it into Live toolbar, but I never really looked at it after they did.
