Today is the day I am DM’ing my first d20 game. We are playing D&D, and I am using only material from the 3 core books rules wise. The adventure comes from Goodman Games as a base, but has been quite heavily modified. I am using the Ruins at Churo Castle as the basis for the adventure. The original adventure is written for 1st level characters, but I have updated it to 3rd level.
I think I am most nervous because I only have a players knowledge of the rules. I know that their are more than a few things I don’t know how to adjudicate. That said, if I wait till I am an “expert” at the rules I will never DM at all. My goal in DM’ing this game is to see if I can get through an entire short adventure in a single day. I want to have this thing wrapped up in about 5 hours. I am also hoping it will be a very good learning experience.
I have setup some of my scenes. I will be using D&D miniatures for all of the bad guys. Should work pretty well. I have decided that some maps are available for the dungeon the party will be traveling to. Those parts are what I have made up using the terrain.Dwarven Forge stuff for use in today’s game. I really like the idea of being able to model out some of the
If things go well, I plan to move on to the creation of a game set in the Iron Kingdoms. The Iron Kingdoms setting is still my favorite in d20. I don’t really have a story line yet for Iron Kingdoms, but with the amount of material available I think I can come up with something.
I do have a few more Goodman Games modules to use as well. I am introducing a character and magic item into today’s adventure which will serve as the glue for a d20 generic campaign. My only rule is that any adventure I run for that campaign will be completed in 1 or maybe 2 game sessions, and each will tell a complete story. I am not sure if I will continue with it, but it should be nicely put into place. this campaign is set in the Ãereth world detailed by Goodman Games.
