Organizing Images Update

A big thinks to Brent who commented on my earlier article about organizing pictures on my PC for upload to Flickr.  I was looking for a way to tag my pictures, have the tags stored in the files themselves, and have the tags display on Flickr.  Brent suggested iTag, which I downloaded and must say it works very well.  Brent has a write up of how to use iTag, but it really is pretty self explanatory.

I tagged up a folder full of images last night with iTag.  It went by pretty quick, much quicker than using Adobe.  I opened up Picasa while I was working, and every time I saved my tags in iTag, Picassa would refresh it’s library and the tags I had entered were immediately searchable.  I have to say it worked VERY well.  I personally have never liked Picasa because it was hard to organize images with it.  However, the search function in Picasa works great with the tags.  I will likely keep all three programs iTag, Picasa and Elements in my rotation for handling images.  Elements to grab the images from the camera and to do any required editing, iTag to tag and name/describe the pictures, and Picasa to search for and review pictures.  Of course, I will upload the pictures to Flickr when I am done.

I have my fingers crossed that I will receive a shiny new Canon Digital Rebel XTi for my birthday tomorrow, along with a nice 60mm macro lense.  If so, you should be seeing even more pictures coming from me.
