New Category: KM

I am pretty excited to add a new category to my blog, and to see some merging between what I like to read about personally and a project at work. The category description for KM is: “A new personal and work initiative to research and better understand Knowledge Management, Communication, Social Networks, Collaboration, Web 2.0, and how to mash these concepts together into something that works in the enterprise.”

I have been playing around with wiki’s, social networks and of course blogs personally for a number of years. I am now starting to look at how to leverage some of these technologies in the enterprise. I work for a law firm, and I will be focusing my attention on that industry, although I imagine many of my thoughts will extend at least into other professional services industries. Like all industries, legal has some specialized tools which are critical and used daily, and I will be spending some time discussing how to integrate this existing law firm technology with new Web 2.0 technologies to form a basis for knowledge management.

I have a great deal of interest, especially working in an industry where knowledge is a commodity, in ways to capture and share tacit knowledge. Above all, I will be looking at the people aspect of knowledge management, and how a more social environment, conducive to knowledge transfer can be created.

I am hoping to publish a couple articles a month in this category. I will be preparing an RSS feed just for this category. I will add the link here and on my site subscription page when it is setup.
