I am a big fan of leveraging the amazing tools on the internet in new and interesting ways. As a gamer, I try to think of ways to use online tools to have a better gaming experience. Everyone knows that the web is filled with great resources for gamer, be it in the form of rules or FAQs or just discussion forums. I am not sure everyone knows about some of the other amazing tools that are available.
Someone who does know about these tools, at least the ones made available from Google, is Amaril the author of The Immaterial Plane blog. On Friday Amaril posted a great article about using the Google tools to manage and run an RPG game. The article is geared towards pencil and paper RPG’s, but the tools he mentions could be used equally well by miniatures and even board gamers. The Treasure Tables blog posted a link to Amaril’s article on Sunday, pointing to some of their resources for using blogs and wiki’s in gaming.
I have often posted gaming links here that I have gathered via Ma.gnolia. I make use of Google Documents & Spreadsheets to post and work with army lists for miniatures games. I like to think that I am pretty “up” on the tools that are available and what can be used, and I think this article is filled with great ideas. I mentioned to my gaming group a while back that I thought it would be interesting to bring more technology to the table, I think this is a good article to get people thinking along these lines. In short, it’s a blog post I wish I had written. If you are a gamer, and use the web, you should take a look at this article.
