Board Game Wiki

While I am on the subject of game related Wiki’s, I thought I would mention a new wiki for board gamers. The Board Game Wiki was created last week to provide a new outlet for people to discuss and share information about board games and the board gaming hobby. The site is described by the creator as:

Welcome to this new site about board games. This site has been created to provide a truly free medium of expression to people interested in board games of all kinds.

Everyone seems to be asking if the internet needs another site about board games when Board Game Geek (BGG) is pretty much an end all resource for board gamers. My thought on this subject, a subject that I am sure could end up being delicate for some board game enthusiasts, is that the web can handle a new web site. The power of the Wiki is one that is just being explored on BGG. The ability for people to modify or create articles for anything board game related, and in any related content, without having to wait for moderator approval is a big shift from the way BGG works. It requires an active community to weed out spam and other problem changes, but provides a great many benefits. I for one have always been disappointed with the speed at which things like links get added to BGG. Hyperlinking is a major part of the internet experience, and there is no reason to not allow valid links in as quickly as possible. I think that the wiki idea is a good one, and I look forward to seeing and helping it grow.

If you want to be a part of content creation for Board Games, separate from information on BGG, you should check out the Board Game Wiki.
