I am having a great deal of fun playing with the various music sites on the web recently. I am rethinking my music listening, searching, and finding habits almost daily. In addition to the various podsafe music networks I have joined up with, I am also actively watching (listening) at the following places.
Pandora
Yahoo Music Unlimited
Last.FM
Emusic
Amie Street
I had initially disregarded Amie St due to what I though was an overly busy interface. However, they have been cleaning things up, and I decided to go back and take another look. I like what they have done with the place, and was able to quickly find three artists I had not heard of before. Amie St has a unique method of allowing you to purchase music. Basically, every song starts off free, and the more people buy the track, the more popular it becomes, and the more expensive the track gets. When tracks reach .98 cents they have reached the max price, and I guess they should be considered very popular at that point. The best part of Amie St though, is that all downloads are DRM free. When you buy a track it is yours to keep and use as you will. The ability to have DRM free tracks is increasingly important to me. I have switched most of my music purchases to Emusic, actual CD’s, and potentially now Amie St for this reason.
Amie St also offers some nice embedded technology, and this is a great way to share some of the new music I have found. Check out this track by Asobi Seksu. Asobi Seksu is an indie pop band from New York, with a very trip hop or maybe shoegazer lyrical sound. The band is fronted by Yuki Chikudate, and her voice is a perfect complement to the great guitar underneath. Another interesting tidbit is that Asobi Seksu apparently (informally) means playful sex in Japanese, can’t go wrong with a name like that I guess.

[...] Week two of New Music Friday is here, and it was a great week scouring the web for new music. I wrote a little earlier this week about Amie Street, and linked to music by Asobi Seksu. I am pretty sure they will be topping my weekly most listened to chart as I am really liking the music on both their albums. New Music Friday for this week features three new to me bands including Asobi Seksu, so lets dive right in and get to the music. [...]
