SlideShare - Presentations done cool

I was excited this morning to read about a new service rolling out today. I was even more excited to hear that it was a YouTube style presentation sharing application. I was more excited still when I read some of the features:

  • Ability to embed presentation in other webpages…very nice. (see below)
  • Ability to link not only to a presentation, but to a particular slide in a presentation.
  • Ability to upload either PowerPoint or OpenOffice Impress files.
  • Tagging and commenting well implemented on the site.

I really like presentation programs as a way to get information across to an audience. I think the medium is a nice mixture of text and images, and can really enhance a message. I used to do a fair amount of training, and presentations were a common tool I would use to get a class started. They are also just fun to play with. I should add, that I was very excited when I requested access to the still private beta, and received access an hour later…what fun.

The site is still invitation only, but will hopefully open up soon. I would love to see what types of presentations the community uploads. I am going to try and come up with some nice looking presentations (the one below was put together in about 5 minutes) and see how they render through the service. One other interesting note, they are using the Amazon S3 service to store the files that are uploaded.

To go along with my previous post on the new Google Groups Beta, I thought I would through together a slide show with a few screen captures from the new beta.
