Warhammer…how very sad. June 15, 2005
Another price increase? Games Workshop you must truly be insane. A company with the purchasing power of Games Workshop should be offering better deals to its customers, driving people to their games as opposed to pushing people away with this annual price increase. GW states:
Effective July 6, 2005, select items in Games Workshop’s product range will be increasing in price. Every year we will review our range and we will only have one review a year. Our next price review will happen in July 2006.
The wording of this disclaimer is basically saying we won’t raise prices more than once per year, and virtually eliminates the possibility of a price decrease. Modest price increases are understandable, but the $10 - $15 dollar increase on regiment boxes since I started playing (and really since 6th edition has been out) FAR outweighs inflation. I would expect to see this type of price increase from the smaller manufacturers if material costs had risen so sharply, but Privateer Press has not had this type of increase (nor has Reaper).
Games Workshop is raising its prices to increase its profits, knowing that people will pay these outrageous prices because many consumers feel that there are no other options. I just cannot beleive that this is to offset increased costs, and if it is to offset reduced sales perhaps a price decrease would boost sales and have the same effect. While Warmachine has done well, other miniatures companies need to do a better job of supporting and maintianing their games…people need to hear more about the alternatives. Anyone who plays a Games Workshop game should try and buy some stock in the company…because the only people this company cares about are its shareholders.
